Marking the third release from her forthcoming album “BEAUTIFUL MADNESS”, “EGO” dives deep into the themes of self-awareness, transformation, and letting go of control, both in relationships and within oneself.

Unlike her previous singles “BALENCIAGA COVERED EYES” and “MILK”, which explored external perception and creative ambition, “EGO” offers a rawer, more introspective sound. Drawing from spiritual influences like Eckhart Tolle, the song is a shimmering synth-pop anthem that challenges the ego’s role in shaping our identities.

“’EGO’ is inspired by conversations about self-discovery,” Agnes shared in an interview. “I wanted to capture the feeling that it’s only when we dare to let go of control that life can surprise us.”

Lyrics First, Sound Second

In a refreshing and creative pivot, Agnes allowed lyrics, rather than melodies, to guide the songwriting process. This approach gave birth to what she describes as an “unpolished and intimate” soundscape, allowing every word to breathe and every beat to land with intention.

“Letting the lyrics take the lead opened up new worlds,” she said. “It also allowed me to experiment even more with my voice than ever before.”

This lyrical-first approach helped her create an album where each track carries a distinct emotional pulse and sonic personality.

Minimalism with Maximum Emotion

Agnes drew inspiration from avant-garde pop and minimalist art, particularly the unapologetic sound universe of Róisín Murphy and the quiet emotional power of Mark Rothko’s paintings.

“This time, I wanted everything to be more naked and direct,” she explained. “Instead of building layer upon layer, I wanted each element to have its own space.”

The result is a collection of songs that feel less like polished pop and more like emotional confessions on the dancefloor.

A Star-Studded Creative Team

To bring this vision to life, Agnes reunited with a close-knit team of collaborators: Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir (known for work with Avicii, Madonna, Swedish House Mafia), Hannah Wilson (Tove Lo, Galantis), Kerstin Ljungström, and Frans Bryngel, aka Outrovert (The Weeknd, Sebastian Ingrosso). Together, they created a sonic environment where authenticity was prioritized over perfection.

“We pushed boundaries and dared to experiment,” said Agnes. “It was important to me to keep the team small and the process intimate.”

A Journey Through Contrasts

While “EGO” introduces a deeper, more stripped-down Agnes, it continues the thematic thread that began with her recent singles. “BALENCIAGA COVERED EYES” presented a glittery but fragile exterior, while “MILK” celebrated bold self-creation with cheeky flair and a chant-like groove.

From Dancefloor Queen to Art-Pop Explorer

With over half a billion streams, iconic hits like “Release Me”, and a critically acclaimed album (Magic Still Exists, 2021), Agnes has firmly established herself as one of Sweden’s most innovative and enduring pop voices.

But for Agnes, the accolades are secondary to the joy of artistic creation:

“That naive joy I felt at the beginning of my career, just being able to sing, is still at the core of everything I do,” she reflected. “There will always be more to express, more to discover.”

With “EGO”, Agnes invites listeners to strip away illusion, drop the mask, and meet themselves at the edge of something real. And in doing so, she reminds us that sometimes, the most powerful move we can make is to simply let go.
