Chappell Roan Embraces a Country Twist with New Single “The Giver”

Chappell Roan is back, and this time, she’s giving fans something a little different. After much anticipation, the genre-defying pop star has released her new single, “The Giver”, an anthemic, high-energy track that leans into country influences while still keeping her signature theatrical flair intact.

Roan first debuted “The Giver” during her Saturday Night Live performance last November, teasing the song’s playful, boot-stomping vibe. Since then, she’s dropped cryptic hints on social media and even scattered mysterious billboards across cities like New York and Los Angeles. Now, the song is finally here, and it’s clear that Roan is once again proving she’s anything but predictable.

A Country Detour—But Not a Permanent One

Produced and co-written by Dan Nigro alongside Paul Cartwright —known for their work with artists like Olivia Rodrigo—, “The Giver” marks a bold detour from Roan’s usual hyper-pop aesthetic. Instead, the track is packed with twangy guitars, a fiddle-laden instrumental, and an irresistibly catchy chorus. With lyrics like, “Ain’t no need to hurry, ’cause baby, I deliver / Ain’t no country boy quitter, I get the job done,” the song leans into playful, confident storytelling, embracing the lightheartedness that country music is known for.

However, for fans wondering if Roan is making a full transition into the country scene, she has made it clear—this is just a fun, standalone moment. “I really just did it for fun,” she explained during her appearance on Today’s Country Radio With Kelleigh Bannen. “I’m not switching genres or anything, I just wanted to write a country song because I thought it would be funny.”

She further clarified her intentions on Country Heat Weekly, explaining that the track was inspired by the way country music makes her feel—free, nostalgic, and a little rebellious. “I wrote a country song not to invade country music, but to really capture what I think the essence of country music is for me, which is nostalgia, fun in the summertime, the fiddle, and the banjo feeling like a country queen,” she said.

A Nod to Classic Country—With a Chappell Roan Twist

Roan has always had a flair for theatricality, and “The Giver” is no exception. The track takes inspiration from classic pop-country hits like Big & Rich’s “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)” and Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee“, with a playful, tongue-in-cheek energy that makes it a natural addition to her eclectic discography.

To further cement the song’s country-inspired aesthetic, Roan has released five limited edition 7-inch vinyl variants, each representing different characters from the song—including a lawyer, a dentist, and a private investigator. These personas were teased on billboards ahead of the single’s drop, adding to the theatrical world-building that has become a hallmark of Roan’s artistry.

On Instagram, Roan acknowledged that releasing a full-fledged country song was a bold move, especially after the success of her pop hit “Good Luck, Babe!” last year. “It is def a bold and scary move to release a full-ass country song after only releasing one song last year and it having such success in the pop genre,” she wrote. “But that’s the entire point of Chappell Roan. Popstar girl then pop an edible + watch YouTube vibes.”

A Career on the Rise

Roan’s latest release comes on the heels of a major career milestone—her Best New Artist win at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The moment was made even more memorable by her powerful acceptance speech, where she used her platform to call for healthcare reform in the music industry.

Between her theatrical performances, fearless experimentation, and sharp-witted storytelling, Chappell Roan is proving that she’s not just a rising star—she’s an artist who refuses to be boxed in. And whether she’s delivering campy pop bangers or twangy anthems, one thing is certain: she always gets the job done.
