Evanescence Unleashes Epic New Single “Afterlife” for Netflix’s Devil May Cry Series
Evanescence is back and they’re not holding anything back!
The Grammy-winning rock band has returned with a thunderous new single, “Afterlife” written for Netflix’s upcoming Devil May Cry animated series.

The track marks a bold step into a new realm for the band, both musically and visually, as they dive headfirst into the gritty, gothic world of Capcom’s beloved video game franchise, now reimagined through the eyes of showrunner and executive producer Adi Shankar.
Shankar, known for his dark and stylized storytelling, calls Devil May Cry “a melancholic rock & roll Shakespearean tragedy,” and says that teaming up with Evanescence was a natural fit: “Amy and her squad own this space. Evanescence sculpts entire emotional landscapes. Their sound is alchemy — gothic grandeur meets raw vulnerability.”
The series, which debuts April 3 on Netflix, follows Dante, a brooding demon-hunter-for-hire caught between two worlds—human and demonic. “Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between realms,” the show teases, “and Dante may be the only one who can stop them.”
At the heart of this intense narrative lies “Afterlife”, a cinematic and emotionally raw track that captures the very soul of the show. Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee, who co-wrote the song with producer Alex Seaver (aka Mako), wasn’t originally familiar with the Devil May Cry universe—but says she was instantly hooked: “Right from the first scene of the show, I knew it was going to be good. Creative and thought-provoking, horrific and beautiful, classic.”
Produced by Seaver and longtime Evanescence collaborator Nick Raskulinecz, with additional production by Tyler Demorest, “Afterlife” channels both pain and power. “For me, the song is both the pain and the resolve,” Lee explains. “From the perspective of someone who has lost so much, and will always carry the marks of that, but also someone who has reached the point of being past the fear. No trepidation, no hesitation in your quest when you have committed to the fight and have nothing left to lose.”
Shankar describes the track as an integral thread within the show’s deeper themes of trauma, loss, and redemption. “‘Afterlife’ is not just a song in the story,” he says, “it is the echo of a soul reaching for what once was, and perhaps, what could still be.”
But Afterlife is more than just a one-off single. In a recent interview, Lee hinted at what fans have been longing to hear: “This is the first of many. We’re working on a lot of songs right now for the new album, but this came up through Netflix, and we were just really excited to have an excuse to get in there right away.”
With Afterlife, Evanescence not only returns to the spotlight, they do so on their own terms, fusing raw emotion with cinematic scale in a way only they can. And if this is just the beginning, fans are in for something truly special.
