Kehlani Opens Her Heart on Soulful New Single “Out the Window”

Kehlani is slowing things down and turning the emotion all the way up on her brand-new single, “Out the Window”, released today, November 7th, via Atlantic Records. The song, a tender reflection on love, regret, and second chances, marks another step in the Oakland-born artist’s current R&B renaissance, and a reminder of how effortlessly she can blend vulnerability with vocal mastery.

Produced by Antonio Dixon (Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, JoJo) and Khris Riddick-Tynes (Toni Braxton, SZA, Drake), “Out the Window” captures the essence of early-2000s R&B, silky, emotional, and deeply human. The stripped-back production lets Kehlani’s voice shine like never before. Smooth yet raw, her tone carries every ounce of longing and reflection as she pleads for another chance: a love once taken for granted, now worth fighting for.

The cover art, shot by legendary photographer Markus Klinko, nods directly to R&B’s golden era. Klinko, known for iconic covers like Beyoncé’s “Dangerously in Love” and Mariah Carey’s “The Emancipation of Mimi”, gives Kehlani’s single the kind of glossy, timeless feel that perfectly complements the song’s nostalgic energy.

“Out the Window” arrives just five months after “Folded”, Kehlani’s breakthrough hit that recently became their first top 10 entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot R&B Songs charts. Following a powerful live performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and a star-studded Homage Pack of remixes featuring Toni Braxton, Brandy, JoJo, Mario, Ne-Yo, and Tank, Kehlani continues to prove that this new era is both a celebration of classic R&B and a deeply personal evolution.

Lyrically, “Out the Window” finds Kehlani at her most introspective, owning her mistakes, expressing remorse, and reaching for redemption. Her delicate runs and heartfelt tone make each line ache with sincerity, evoking that cinematic image of standing outside an ex’s window in the rain, hoping love hasn’t slipped away entirely.

Both “Folded” and “Out the Window” will appear on Kehlani’s upcoming studio album, expected in 2026, the follow-up to 2024’s “Crash”, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album. In a recent interview, Kehlani revealed that a new album is on the way next year, calling it “my most honest work yet”.

With “Out the Window”, Kehlani doesn’t just revisit the golden age of R&B; she redefines it for a new generation. Smooth, soulful, and steeped in truth, this is Kehlani at her most timeless.
