Veronica Maggio “Levels Up” With New Single and Bold Sound Direction
Swedish pop icon Veronica Maggio returns with a powerful new single, “Level Up”, released today, June 13th, via EMI Sweden/Universal Music. The release coincides with her much-anticipated performance at Gröna Lund in Stockholm, where fans will get a taste of her new sonic universe.

Earlier this year, Maggio introduced her audience to “Sciura”, the title of her upcoming eighth studio album, and also a conceptual world brimming with crashing drums, grunge-infused guitar riffs, cinematic strings, and raw, visceral lyrics. With longtime collaborator and producer August Vinberg, she’s crafted an album that blends her signature melodic storytelling with darker, more industrial textures.
While her first single from the album, “Inte bra i grupp”, received critical acclaim and was named P3’s “Hit Warning of the Week,” “Level Up” marks a thematic curveball. Here, Maggio moves beyond panic attacks and love songs, venturing into unexpected territory, zombies, and video game metaphors.
“Here you go. You can call me Master Chief — I’ve been protecting Earth from alien invasions since around 2002. But I’m done now. You’ll have to take it from here. Level Up is my way of handing over the responsibility,” Veronica explains with her signature blend of irony and emotional depth.
Always sharp in capturing what aches, “Level Up” sees Maggio embracing reinvention. The track is more than a nod to gaming culture; it’s a metaphor for growth, fatigue, and letting go. And it signals a bold new chapter in her already storied career.
“Level Up” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
