BANKS Returns with “Best Friends” and Announces Fifth Studio Album

BANKS is back and bolder than ever. Today, Friday, November 22nd, the alt-pop powerhouse unveiled her captivating new single, “Best Friends”, alongside the announcement of her highly anticipated fifth studio album, “Off With Her Head”, slated for release on February 28th. This record promises to be a seismic moment in her career, marking both a return to her roots and a bold step forward.

A Heartfelt Ode to Growing Pains

“Best Friends” is a raw, emotionally charged exploration of the complexities of a fading friendship. Written by Tim Anderson, MoZella, BANKS, and Aron Forbes, and produced by Anderson and Forbes, the track perfectly captures BANKS’ signature blend of vulnerability and power. With its haunting melodies and sharp lyrical poignancy, the single resonates as a universal anthem for anyone who has grappled with the bittersweet evolution of personal connections.

The Big Sister to Goddess

Off With Her Head” is more than just an album—it’s a homecoming. BANKS describes the project as the “big sister” to her acclaimed 2014 debut, “Goddess”, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2024. Reuniting with the core team behind “Goddess”, including Tim Anderson, BANKS has crafted a record that honors her early sound while showcasing her evolution as an artist and a person.

“After a decade apart, I’ve reunited with the core musicians and producers who shaped my debut,” BANKS shared. “Yet, it also represents something entirely new, reflecting my growth as both an artist and a person.”

The Era of Off With Her Head

Last month, BANKS teased this new chapter with “I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend”, a fierce collaboration with rapper Doechii.

The forthcoming album will feature 12 tracks, including intriguingly titled songs like “Delulu,” “Direction,” “River,” and “Meddle in the Mold.” The full tracklisting is the following:

Off WIth Her Head - Album Cover
Off WIth Her Head – Album Cover
  1. “Guillotine”
  2. “I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend ft. Doechii”
  3. “Love Is Unkind”
  4. “Delulu”
  5. “Move”
  6. “Stay”
  7. “Best Friends”
  8. “Meddle in the Mold”
  9. “Direction”
  10. “Make It Up”
  11. “River”
  12. “Off With Her Head”

BANKS’ artistic journey has been one of constant reinvention. Her previous album, 2022’s “Serpentina” marked her first independent release, a project she described as embodying her “serpent queen” era. “Off With Her Head” builds on that fierce independence, offering a cohesive vision that ties her past and present together.

A Prelude to the Celebration

Before the album drops, fans can look forward to an acoustic reimagining of “Goddess”, set to release on December 13th. This special edition is both a tribute to her beginnings and a fitting lead-up to what promises to be a triumphant return with her new project.

Why Best Friends Hits So Hard

BANKS’ ability to weave introspection into electrifying soundscapes is unparalleled, and “Best Friends” is no exception. The track feels like a diary entry set to music, unflinchingly honest yet universally relatable. It’s BANKS at her best—delivering gut-punch emotions with a sonic edge.

With “Off With Her Head”, BANKS is not just revisiting her roots; she’s rewriting the rules. If “I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend” and “Best Friends” is any indication, this era will solidify her place as one of the most compelling and innovative voices in modern music.

Mark your calendars—February 28th is BANKS’ day. Prepare to lose your head.
