Colombian superstar Karol G had a triple celebration on Wednesday, February 14th, as she marked her 33rd birthday, Valentine’s Day, and the release of her latest single, “Contigo”. Teaming up once again with Tiësto, this track is their third collaboration following their previous hits “Don’t Be Shy” (2021) and the “Provenza (Remix)” featured on Karol’s 2023 album “Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season)“.

Embarking on a new chapter dubbed the Bichota era, “Contigo” is an all-Spanish-language fusion of rhythmic Latin pop and electronic dance music. Notably, the song also incorporates elements from Leona Lewis’ 2007 classic, “Bleeding Love”, written by Ryan Tedder and Jesse McCartney. Co-produced by Tedder with additional contributions from Björn “Beast” Djupström, and Tyler Spry, the lyrics of “Contigo” revolve around themes of love and acceptance, complemented by a vibrant music video directed by Pedro Artola that underscores Karol’s support for the LGBTQ+ community. In the video, she shares the screen with Young Miko as her love interest.

Set against a backdrop of urban landscapes and pulsating club scenes, the video unfolds a narrative of love and longing, punctuated by symbolic imagery such as a locket exchanged between the protagonists. As the story progresses, viewers are drawn into a rollercoaster of emotions, culminating in a climactic moment of connection between Karol G and Miko.

The anticipation for “Contigo” was heightened as Karol first teased snippets of its lyrics on social media, further confirming its imminent release during one of her concerts at Mexico’s Estadio Azteca. Reflecting on the overwhelming support from her fans, Karol expressed gratitude on her Instagram Story, recounting the touching moment when her Mexican fans surprised her with a giant banner featuring lyrics from the song.

“Contigo” arrives amidst Karol G’s ongoing Mañana Será Bonito Latin America tour and her recent triumph at the Grammy Awards, where she secured her first win for Best Música Urbana Album.
