Megan Thee Stallion, the Grammy-winning rapper known for her fierce persona and powerful lyrics, has released her latest single “BOA”, marking another step in her transformation from stallion to serpent as she approaches her highly anticipated third studio album.

This new release follows last fall’s “COBRA” and the early 2024 track “HISS”, continuing the snake-themed motif that symbolizes Megan’s rebirth and personal growth.

Collaborating once again with longtime producer LilJuMadeDaBeat, “BOA” features a sample from Gwen Stefani‘s 2004 hit “What You Waiting For?”, earning writing credits for Stefani, songwriter Linda Perry, and Derrick Milano. Megan delivers her signature confident swagger over the beat, a style that her fans have come to adore and expect.

The accompanying music video, directed by Daniel Iglesias Jr., showcases Megan in a Jumanji-inspired, video game setting. She embraces her role as the ultimate video game villain, cycling through an array of eye-catching outfits and vibrant backdrops that are synonymous with her bold visual style.

Lyrically, the song aligns more closely with the unapologetic attitude of “HISS” than the emotionally raw “COBRA”. Last month, Megan explained her choice of the snake motif, emphasizing its symbolism of shedding the past to become a new person. “I was inspired to create this album about rebirth because I feel I am becoming a new person physically and mentally,” she said. “They’re feared, misunderstood, respected, healing.”

Megan further elaborated on her evolving approach to music. “I’ve always struggled to figure out how to be vulnerable and still make music that is going hard at the same time,” she said. “Now, I’m able to strike more of a balance that showcases both my professional and personal sides. I’m getting into a better space with making music that is still true to myself but also true to my message. I am very much a flower, but my flower has thorns.”

As Megan continues to evolve artistically and personally, she is also preparing for her first-ever headlining tour, the Hot Girl Summer Tour. Kicking off on May 14, the tour will take Megan and fellow rapper GloRilla across North America, wrapping up at the end of July.
