Nelly Furtado Unveils New Single “Corazón” with Bomba Estéreo and Announces Upcoming Album “7”

Nelly Furtado is back in the spotlight with the release of her latest single “Corazón”, a vibrant track from her highly anticipated seventh studio album, “7”. The song, featuring the Colombian band Bomba Estéreo, showcases Furtado’s signature blend of English and Spanish lyrics. It was first previewed during her live set at the Machaca Festival in June 2023. Shortly thereafter, Furtado gave Vogue magazine an exclusive listen, where it was described as an “uptempo dance track.”

“Corazón” boasts an impressive lineup of songwriters, including Nelly Furtado herself, Nevis Gahunia, Olivier Cazier, Jenna Andrews, Stephen Kirk, Steve Bilodeau, T-Minus, and Li Saumet of Bomba Estéreo. The production team features T-Minus, Nelly Furtado, and Billa Joints, ensuring a rich and dynamic soundscape.

In tandem with the single release, Furtado announced that her new album “7” will drop on September 20th. The album will feature 14 tracks, though the full tracklist remains under wraps. However, fans can expect the inclusion of previously released singles “GALA Y DALÍ” featuring Juanes, and “Love Bites” with Tove Lo and SG Lewis.

Accompanying the announcement, Furtado shared a heartfelt statement about the journey of creating “Corazón” and the album as a whole. She described the song’s production as a two-year process spanning three different cities and involving an “army of people”. The creation of “Corazón”, she noted, was not just a professional endeavor but a deeply personal one. “This isn’t a job for me. It’s super personal. Music is my whole language and life and love and blessing,” she expressed, highlighting the emotional connection she has with her music.

Furtado first felt the inspiration for “Corazón” during a trip to Colombia with friends, which set the creative process in motion. Over the next four years, she recorded extensively, ultimately producing 400-500 pieces of music. The challenge, she admitted, was in selecting the 14 tracks that would make it onto the album. “My ADHD doesn’t always allow for me to organize creations in a methodical way, so it’s hard to explain how we have chosen 14 songs that magically rose to the top of the heap,” she explained.

The eclectic nature of “7” reflects Furtado’s artistic journey, likening the album’s tracks to “random seashells that may be similar but not at all alike.” She encourages listeners to enjoy the album in their own way, whether by listening to it as a whole or skipping around to different tracks. Her intention, she shared, was to provide “portals to trip out and release and escape,” underscoring the therapeutic role music plays in her life. “I badly need music every single day. My brain doesn’t even work without music,” she confessed.

Furtado also mentioned her struggle with self-doubt during the album’s creation, finding solace in the recurring appearance of the number seven, which she took as a sign of reassurance.

As the release date of “7” approaches, anticipation is building to see what this eclectic and emotional collection will bring. Furtado’s reflective and personal message gives fans a glimpse into her artistic journey, promising an album that is as diverse and unique as the experiences that shaped it.
