Charli XCX recruits Sam Smith on new single “In The City”
Charli XCX is currently working on the follow-up to her 2022 dance-pop masterpiece album “CRASH”, which included the singles “Good Ones”, “New Shapes” featuring Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek, and “Beg For You” featuring Rina Sawayama among others.
In the meantime, the talented artist is dropping a brand new single which is thought to be a standalone and not the start of a new era, according to Charli.
“In The City” is its title and it marks her first collaboration with Sam Smith. At the same time, it is also her first release under her new record label, Atlantic Records.
The song was written by the two artists in collaboration with A. G. Cook, ILYA, and Omer Fedi. Charli also handled its production with A. G. Cook, George Daniel, ILYA, and Omer Fedi.
“‘In The City’ is about finding the people you truly love & connect with through wild nights out and partying in magical places. It’s about feeling accepted, the magnificence of being welcomed into queer spaces, and those once-in-a-lifetime people you get to meet when you’re there.”, Charli stated about the song.
The song was previously hinted at in the music video for “Speed Drive”, Charlie’s contribution to the Barbie movie soundtrack, but it was not clear what they were referring to at the time.
