Dua Lipa returns with new single “Houdini”
It is now been 3 years since Dua Lipa took the world by storm with her sophomore album “Future Nostalgia”, which topped the charts in numerous countries around the world and spawned several singles, such as “Don’t Start Now” and “Physical” among many others.
More recently, Dua contributed to the soundtrack of the “Barbie” movie with the song “Dance The Night”, which also served as the lead single.
Now, the talented pop star is kicking off a new era with the release of her single “Houdini”.
The song serves as the lead single from her upcoming third studio album which is expected to drop sometime in 2024.
The track was written by Dua alongside Caroline Ailin, Tobias Jesso Jr., Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, and Danny L Harle. Parker (Rihanna, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd) and Harle (Caroline Polachek, Rina Sawayama, Charli XCX) are also responsible for its production.
Speaking about the song, she stated:
“‘Houdini’ embodies the energy of a good night out. This was the first track I wrote about that fun and freeing time of being single. The lyrics are a bit cheeky, but there is a real underlying message of understanding yourself deeply and having no guilt about knowing your self-worth. Sometimes you just have to pull a Houdini and leave a situation that’s no longer serving you.”
The single’s release was followed by an official music video directed by Manu Cossu (The Weeknd, Skrillex, Lykke Li) and cinematographer André Chemetoff (Lana Del Rey, M.I.A., Frank Ocean).
It seems like Dua is not playing any tricks on us with her new single and that she is indeed pulling a rabbit out of a hat. All puns intended!
